We were delighted to support our newly formed United Nations Committee (UNC) in holding the first of their ‘Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) events. This event took place throughout the month of November and was focused around raising awareness of world poverty.
‘No Poverty November’ began with the UNC providing all students with interactive presentations and videos to explain what poverty means and that it impacts on families and individuals across the world. In Secondary, the students were assigned different countries to research about the impact of poverty and students produced an ‘infographic poster’ to highlight what they had learned.
The following week, Year 1-13 students joined together with their ‘House Buddies’ and participated in a very fun and a little messy ‘handprint activity’. These handprints will be used to create a large poster advocating for ‘no poverty’ throughout the world.
Throughout the month an online fundraising project was set up, all funds raised will be donated to the Chongqing Charity Federation’s “Non targeted Poverty alleviation Charity Project”. A book ‘donation station’ was also set up by our UNC, all of these books donated books will be distributed to children in the outlying districts of Chongqing: Xiushan and Qianjiang.
What a fantastic initiative from our United Nations Committee, they really are leading the way in raising the awareness of our students and school community on significant global issues, we look forward to more projects like these throughout the rest of the academic year.
