Over November 18-19, 25 students from YCIS entered into a national debate competition run by NHSDLC (National High School Debate League of China). This was the first time YCIS Chongqing students had taken part in an organised national debating event. They competed against students from all across China, including Beijing and Shanghai, in Public Forum style debates.
Students examined the very prominent issue of AI, debating whether or not the future of AI will be a benefit or a hindrance to mankind’s future development. Despite having only three weeks to prepare our students achieved excellent results in the competition. Students from YCIS Chongqing took first and second place in the middles school category. One of our middle school students also came away with the trophy for best overall speaker in the debate. In the high school, which included more than 50 teams from across China, one of our teams made it to the final 16 teams.
The day was a great success for all involved and all the debaters came away smiling. On top of that the students came back with a total of seven trophies signifying the beginning of YCIS Chongqing’s journey to success in national debate competitions in China.
