Over May 4 to 7 YCIS Chongqing took part in the final SCISAC (Southern China International Schools Athletic Conference) tournament of the year. The Basketball Tournament was hosted by The International School of Macau (TIS) in Macau and included four other international schools: Nanjing International School (NIS), Hong Kong Academy (HKA), Xiamen International School (XIS) and Ivy Collegiate Academy (ICA). It once again proved to be a fantastic experience for players, coaches and all involved.
The tournament featured middle school athletes competing in at least six games over a two-and-a-half-day period. The level of play was extremely high with a number of nail biting matches.
The competition proved to be very tough for the YCIS Chongqing teams; however, they showed great improvement from their first training sessions and were competitive in all matches. The girls narrowly lost in their final round robin match, which would have seen them through to the semi-finals. Unfortunately, this was not the case and they instead took home 5th position overall, comfortably beating ICA in the playoff match. The boys were also unlucky as they lost to a very spirited HKA team who pulled away after a close first half, forcing YCIS Chongqing into 6th position overall.
The final playing day was concluded with a lavish dinner and prize giving hosted by Conrad Hotel, which was an excellent opportunity to share in the successes of the tournament and also to bring the students together for one last time. By the last day of the tournament, all participants were able to form relationships deeper than they would have on a basketball court.
Overall the 2017 SCISAC basketball tournament was a rounding success and we look forward to what the 2017-2018 has in store for our SCISAC sports teams.
