As a tradition, the annual YCIS Chinese New Year celebration kicked off this week with a range of activities designed to experience Chinese culture and embrace the New Year!
On January 24, all primary students and teachers wore traditional Chinese costumes to school and immersed themselves into the authentic Chinese New Year atmosphere!
This year’s Fun Fair consisted of 12 different activities and one Movie Studio. Lower primary students from Years 1 to 2 earned chances to receive a lucky draw entry if they completed 5 activities. Students from Years 3 to 6 needed to get at least 10 stamps in order to earn their lucky draw entries. Parents and teachers encouraged the students to try their best to get as many stamps as they could by unique Chinese New Year-related challenges and tasks.
Meanwhile, the secondary celebration commenced from the school gate in the form of an Amazing Race. All the students, parents, teachers and staff put on red or yellow sports costumes and House shirts to show their pride and compete. Six challenge stations were scattered around the whole campus incorporating various fun activities. Moreover, lots of prizes were distributed to students who finished the whole six stations’ adventure. In the end, students gathered to reconvene at the basketball court for the popular game of ‘Chinese New Year Capture the Tag.’
“Food Street” is always a popular event during the Chinese New Year Celebration. With the great support from the school and the Parent Organization, students enjoyed “all you can eat” treats on Food Street for free! Apparently, one and half hours was not long enough for our students to enjoy; no one wanted to leave even when the bell rang to announce the end of the school day!
We thank everyone for their participation in the great festival! Special thanks to our students, parents and staff who work very hard to organize this fun event each year! We wish everyone in oour YCIS Community all the best in the coming year - the Year of Rooster! Happy New Year!
