    • Over November 10 to 12, YCIS Chongqing hosted one of the most exciting sports events over the year: 2016 SCISAC Soccer tournament which comprised of five other international schools from Southern China(Xiamen International School, Hong Kong Academy, The International School of Macau, Ivy Collegiate Academy in Taiwan and Nanjing International school) with players from all over the world competing.

This year’s competition proved to be one of the best events for any YCIS Boys’ Soccer team. The boys, of whom some were playing in their third SCISAC Soccer Tournament, had grown in maturity and this was evident in their performances throughout the tournament. Our boys started the final day with the final round-robin game draw and strong comeback against a very scrappy and brave XIS to secure their spot in 1st place going into the semi-final round. The second game of the day was against 4th ranked HKA. The YCIS boys’ team played an excellent and confident match and came out 1-0 winners. This was a massive win and would see the boys play TIS in the finals. Despite an excellent team effort and having been up front for most of the match, the strong and physical TIS team showed determination and nerves of steel in the championship final and the boys came out runners up to worthy tournament winners.

The YCIS girl’s team entered the tournament as defending champions and also tournament favourites. This kind of pressure and expectation can often be detrimental for a team, but the YCIS girls used this as their motivation and didn’t allow overconfidence to cloud their final goal. The girls entered the playoffs unbeaten and seemed to have not yet changed into second gear. Their first playoff match saw them face HKA, a team that they had already beaten in the round-robin stages. On this occasion however, HKA showed much resistance and made it difficult for the YCIS girls to score. Finally, the shackles were broken and YCIS still managed to come out victorious 3-0. This win put them in the final would see them face NIS for a repeat of the 2015 championship game. Once again, NIS proved no match for the YCIS girls despite a strong defensive effort, and they were crowned champions with a 1-0 win.

This was a massive achievement for our players and a statement to the other schools that YCIS is a school to be reckoned with on the sports field.

Our students will soon be in preparation for the SCISAC Volleyball tournament, which YCIS will be attending in February in Hong Kong. We hope that we can come back with two more trophies.
