Over the past 4 weeks Year 9 have been learning about Medieval England in their Humanities class. Instead of learning various historical events, our Year 9s involved different activities to practice and consolidate their learning

During recent studies, students have learnt about the contenders for the English throne in 1066 and how the winner, William the Conqueror, consolidated his power through setting up a system of Feudalism, the Doomsday books and by setting up castles around the country to help defend his land.

After students gained knowledge about this historical story, as part of learning activities, students have been tasked with recreating their own Motte and Bailey Castle or Concentric castle, which were popular types of castles in medieval world, to show their understanding of the features and purpose of each type of castle and the history background.

Students have demonstrated the levels of their creativity by using a variety of materials to represent this, one student even amazingly baking a cake and decorating it in the style of a Motte and Bailey Castle.

This knowledge and understanding of Medieval England will set the students up for their new topic of Colonization which they will be studying before the Christmas holidays. We look forward to seeing more joyful learning experience from Year 9 in the future!
