YCIS Chongqing Book Week 2019 began with a bang on Monday morning with a Whole School assembly to introduce our visiting author, Simon Higgins, and illustrator, Jenny Wang. Simon and Jenny conducted workshops with our students, sharing their knowledge, experience and skills with each year level.
Meanwhile, the library was lucky enough to have a visit from The Cat in the Hat, who was kind enough to read A Cat in the Hat Adventure with the library classes. Mr. Nash from ITD introduced a number of classes to Augmented Reality books, and Mr. Borengasser from EAL Dept. kindly shared his insights into the inspiration for his writing and illustrations. The annual Harry Potter Quiz attracted Harry Potter fanatics from all levels of the Secondary School. The teams were keen, the questions were tough and the competition was challenging. Finally, the Unforgivable Curses team of Caroline Miller, Matthew Leano and Jack Hayley reigned supreme thanks to their careful research of The Chamber of Secrets.
Classrooms were busy with a range of book related activities including author studies, buddy reading, character treasure hunts, pajama reading and book cover designs on Homeroom doors.
Held in school Great Hall, the Book Fair was well-attended, selling a range of books to reinforce the message that reading should be celebrated both at home and at school.
This busy week of book celebration concluded with an amazing Book Character Parade which was well-supported by the whole school community.
