Activity-based teaching is one of the methods we implement in our daily teaching at YCIS. From different activities, students are encouraged to apply the theory they learn to some hands-on activities in order to enhance the understanding of the knowledge.
On Tuesday 21st August, Year 9 Maths students were tasked to create a tower made of only spaghetti and marshmallows. To complete the challenge they needed to work together, demonstrate teamwork, thinking outside the box, and engineering skills. No group tried the same strategy; instead they chose to try their own methods.
After many failures and falling towers, the competition remained very close. The winning group achieved an impressive tower height of 89cm, while 2nd place reached a respectable 78 cm. Congratulations to the winners!
