For the third year in a row, our students (from Year 6-13) traveled to Suzhou for the annual ACAMIS Swim Meet. More than 600 swimmers from international schools in China, Hong Kong and Macau came together to compete in a variety of swimming events over the 23rd and 24th of March. Host schools Suzhou Singapore International School and Dulwich College Suzhou, once again, hosted a flawless tournament.
Upon arrival, YCIS students visited the canal streets of the Xie Tang Community, one of the many canal streets Suzhou is famous for. After a wander around the town, they enjoyed a nice dinner together, before getting ready for bed in preparation for the start of the tournament.
The Swim Meet involves a lot of waiting between events. The patience of our students was certainly tested, but they kept themselves occupied with games and homework. The progress the YCIS athletes made throughout the year was tremendous, resulting in many improvements in their Personal bests. Not only, did we bring personal bests back to Chongqing, we also received our first noteworthy ranking by Jonguk Cheon. He came in 6th place overall in the 50 meter freestyle event, in which he swam faster than ever.
If one thing stood out during the meet, it was the reflective mindset of our students. The students already identified areas to improve for future events and are ready to train for next year's event. We look forward to seeing our students’ outstanding performance in 2019 ACAMIS Swimming Tournament!
