From the February 1 to the February 4, the YCIS U/15 volleyball teams took part in the SCISAC Volleyball tournament, hosted by The International School of Macau (TIS).
The YCIS boys had a very nervous start to the tournament. While the result didn’t go their way against the host school TIS, the boys gained some valuable experience from the match and it was good to get the first one under the belt.
The girls on the other hand, had an excellent start to their tournament. The girls were strong and dominant in the match and the NIS team from Nanjing proved no match for them. What was fantastic to see though, was the comradery shown between the two teams, with smiles, laughter and animated conversations taking place long after the completion of the match. This is truly what these SCISAC tournaments are about.
The day finished off with some extremely exciting matches across the tournament. On the boys’ side, they finished the tournament in 6th place and while they were disappointed with the result, they could certainly be proud of their efforts and improvement throughout the tournament.
The YCIS girls would have one final opportunity for top three in their third and fourth playoff game against the host school TIS. In this match, their serves that had got them so far in the tournament were once again on fire. It was a fantastic match to watch and TIS were no match for our girls and we finished a very respectable third place.
The tournament finished on Saturday with an awards banquet at the Conrad hotel. The venue and food were outstanding and it gave all teams and student athletes the opportunity to build and establish new relationships as well as rekindle old ones. This is truly the epitome of these SCISAC events. We look forward to the next tournament in May, in which YCIS will be playing basketball hosted by Xiamen International School.
