On November 2, the boys and girls SCISAC Soccer teams made their way to Nanjing to compete against five other international schools. The teams were welcomed by Nanjing International School and after meeting their old friends from previous tournaments, it was time for the first matches.
The first day was successful for both teams, as they left the fields undefeated. After a good rest at the hotel, the second day was a bit more challenging. The girls finished with a win, a draw and a loss and the boys had to try to keep their head up high after three losses. Despite the mixed feelings on the “battlefield”, both teams stood strong and had a fun evening with their friends having dinner, and later on a little party.
Day 3 of the tournament saw the girls overcome injury and mixed form to claim their 5th SCISAC Soccer Championship in a row! A great team performance against HKA (who were previously undefeated) saw them walk off the field with the trophy. The boys won their last game against ICA and ended up 5th.
Lessons were learned and every player improved and the teams are already excited about next year’s SCISAC soccer tournament. As part of a cultural experience the teams went to the Nanjing War Memorial to learn about the past but, more importantly, how to create a better future.
