Once again YCIS Chongqing has hosted a hugely successful end-of-year enrichment activity, Model United Nations Week. The program is designed to be largely student led and the high quality of performances and task completion speaks volumes about the capacity of our student body to engage with global issues and work collaboratively towards possible solutions.
Students enjoyed a range of activities including designing a national dress, cooking a national dumpling (or equivalent), reinterpreting a national anthem, building important national monuments on Minecraft and designing a tourism advertisement. All of this was documented on our Model United Nations EduBlog page. Please take the time to have a look at this site (http://blogs.ycis-cq.com/mun/).
A major highlight of the week was the Gladiator Challenge. Students took on a team of staff gladiators in the YCIS arena. Everyone was sore after events such as the Gauntlet, Powerball and Assault but no one could complain about a lack of fun.
The week culminated in students working in country groups to determine what theme the global community should celebrate for 2017. Based on some outstanding presentations, the United Nations determined that 2017 will be the International Year of Minority Rights.
Thank you’s must go to all staff who were involved in planning the event and of course to the students for their wonderful contributions.
See you all next year.
