Communication between the home and School plays a vitally important role in supporting student’s development in and outside the classroom. During the second week of Semester 2, the school delivered a ‘Primary Curriculum Parent Workshop’ that aimed to provide greater clarity regarding curriculum planning for our Primary parents.
On Thursday January 16, Mr. Ian Ward, our Head of Primary, presented an informative seminar to over fifty Primary parents. Parents were shown the overall curriculum structure, details of how our teachers develop a semester plan, topic by topic, and the importance of ‘Learning Talks’ within this process. All the information shared during the workshop is now available for all parents through Class Dojo.
The lesson planning process that our teachers use each day to implement the curriculum was then outlined. All lesson planning aims to cater to the individual needs of all our students, which requires the development of appropriate student groupings to differentiate lesson content and skills. This is why we don’t have a ‘one size fits all textbook’ as teachers adapt the learning objectives and the activities so that all children can access the learning successfully.
Personalizing the learning for students is a strategy used at YCIS Chongqing, which is consistent with practices at the very best International Schools around the world. Differentiated learning approaches are considered the best strategy to support children in order to optimize their learning outcomes.
During Semester 2, the school will organize further workshops regarding Student Assessment, Philosophy for Children (P4C), English, Mathematics and other specialist areas. All parents are invited to learn more about their children’s learning within the Primary programme and we look forward to hearing more feedback from parents as well.
