On Friday November 23, our YCIS Chongqing campus was filled with student- and teacher-led cultural activities for our community to enjoy. The aim of the week was to highlight the cultures and languages we have on our campus through a range of engaging activities and performances to facilitate intercultural exchange.
From traditional games of China, Japan, Korea and Sweden to delicious delights from the UK, China, Korea and Switzerland, our students and parents were able to experience these cultural exchanges firsthand. To further this engagement, students from Year 6 to Year 12 also shared cultural performances to entertain their classmates and parents.
Our Chinese teachers and their students performed the latest dance moves popular in China while also presenting poetry readings and dramatic productions which reflected various time periods and highlights from Chinese culture.
Our English classes shared a snapshot of culture with their short rendition of “The Importance of Being Earnest” by Oscar Wilde. The Year 9 English class prepared a live broadcasting of a Quidditch match using clips from the film “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”. To end the showcase on a high note, the Year 12 IBDP Korean and English classes collaborated to produce a short enactment of Walt Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast”, which left the audience in awe.
With plenty of smiles and laughs, the Language Week Showcase was a successful event that allowed the YCIS community to come together in celebration of our differences. A thank you to all the parents that came to support their children with this event and we look forward to next year.
