Celebrate the Children!
In 1925, International Children's Day was first proclaimed in Geneva during the World Conference on Child Welfare. It’s a day celebrating the joys of playfulness and childhood, encouraging the recognition of children’s rights, along with their health and happiness.
A European Musical Celebration!
To celebrate Europe Day (the birthday of the European Union), The European Chamber of Commerce hosted an elegant celebration in the newly built Swiss Technopark. In order to further add to the chic atmosphere, they invited two music ensembles from YCIS Chongqing; the small ensemble and the Community Choir.
What a Play!
Year 6 dazzled us this week with their creativity and communication skills as a way to celebrate their learning at the end of a project on playscripts. Drama develops spoken language skills and confidence and as an opportunity to showcase their learning, our student took full advantage of this by performing the playscripts in the Great Hall.
If you are a student, teacher or parent and you go past a school, you can often wonder… What’s inside? What are the children like who go there? What are the teachers like? I wonder if my child would like to go there? Last Saturday a group of families got to find out what YCIS Chongqing was like on the ‘inside’.
On Your Marks!
After witnessing the Primary & Secondary Sports Day last month, the anticipation and excitement has been building as our ECE children have been eagerly waiting to participate in their own Sports Day!
Preparing for the New Journey!
As the 2020/2021 school year comes to a close, it is time for the YCIS Chongqing Year 6 students to begin preparing for Year 7 and life in Secondary.
Let’s go fly a kite!
Kites have always been associated with many positive and symbolic meanings across the world. Here in China it is a traditional custom to fly kites in Spring when all the good things are about to bloom and nourish the earth. To develop the student’s awareness of this tradition, this year’s Check-out Chongqing event has been themed around Kite Designing and Flying. It also provided students with the opportunity to explore CQ without stepping out of the campus but still become familiar with Chongqing life from the past.
Commemorating Composition Competition Competitors
Since December, the Yew Wah/Yew Chung Foundation has been hosting a Music Composition Competition. Students had been aware of the competition for several months and submitted their work in March. They had the choice to create solo pieces, ensemble pieces, electronic compositions, and a simple melody (for Primary students). In all, 8 students from YCIS Chongqing submitted a total of 13 compositions.
Books, books and more book!
We celebrated our annual Book Week last week, with students having an abundance of exciting experiences. We use Book Week as a further opportunity to highlight the important use of books, both fiction and non-fiction within our learning.
