This year marked our fourth YCIS Chongqing Holiday Spectacular. Even though this year saw some difference from previous years, what wasn’t different was the high-calibre of talent on show.

Exploring a Dinosaur Museum at YCIS
Since Year 1 wasn’t able to go to the Dinosaur Museum to open our Dinosaur Topic, we have decided to open our own museum. The Year 1 Learning Community went on a virtual tour of the Chongqing Natural Museum and discussed what we would need in our museum and created our own design. We then researched information about our favourite dinosaurs and wrote fact files.

YCIS Community Choir Spreads Holiday Cheer
As we all know, most of the world is still feeling the effects of COVID-19. But for the most part, Chongqing has been blessed with a lengthy period of relative normalcy. Because of this bubble of safety, the YCIS Chongqing Community Choir was able to have another successful and busy holiday season, performing at many wonderful venues across the city.

Conquering The Stage At YCIS Chongqing
On December 9, 2020, YCIS Primary held its Public Speaking Contest. Year 5 and Year 6 students dueled in a very competitive competition to see who would be crowned king of the stage. All students gained confidence and learned the value of speaking to others.

1200+ YCYW Educators Meet for E-learning Development
To highlight and promote good practices in teaching, Yew Chung and Yew Wah held an “E-Learning Professional Development Days” event on November 27-28, 2020. Speaking at the opening, CEO and School Supervisor Dr Betty Chan Po-king, described the changes sweeping education the world over as “unprecedented”. “It is up to us to adapt our educational practices to ensure that our students can learn successfully using 21st century tools at our disposal,” she said.

A Seasonal Welcome to Campus
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a considerable impact on our life throughout 2020. Thankfully, China has dealt with the situation with a determination to succeed and our school community has shown similar attitude ensuring that our Christmas spirits are lifted. Our Parent Organisation have very kindly arranged for parents within our school community to attend campus and turn it into a winter wonderland with twinkling lights and flashes of red, gold and silver.

Fun-filled Programming Activities - Creative Learning
This year our Computer Science students have been enjoying developing their programming skills. Their analytical, algorithmic and logical skills are being challenged and learning in these areas supports their understanding of subjects such as Mathematics.

Philosophy for Children, how is it taught?
Our Parent Workshops have continued to grow and develop over this semester. In November we provided an additional session with our parents having the opportunity to find out about the learning and teaching of Philosophy for Children (P4C) at YCIS Chongqing.
