    • On November 29 to Dec 1, YCIS Chongqing students were treated to live performances from the White Horse Theatre Group who brought us several wonderful plays called Spot the Dog, Jack and the Beanstalk, The White Witch and the Dark Lord and Lip Gloss.

In addition to the performances, workshops were conducted for Year 5, Year 6 and Year 12. In the Theatre Workshops, groups of pupils from Year 5 and 6 participated in drama activities – movement, mime, speech, and devising theatrical scenes. The children used drama techniques to explore together the themes of a play or a situation, under the guidance of experienced workshop-leaders.

The Theatre workshops introduced a playful approach to the language, encouraging students to become actively involved. Everyone was individually creative, while being part of a shared group experience. It was enriching and tied in with our Literacy genre ‘Dialogue and Drama’ and ‘Poetry for Performance’.

It was apparent from the very start of the performances that not only the children but also all the teachers thoroughly enjoyed the plays and the workshops. For many children this was the first time they were attending a live theatre show! From the expression on the children’s faces you could tell that they were completely engaged and captivated by the story almost feeling like they were part of it.

We are all eagerly looking forward to experience more and more experimental classes taking place next year!
