Can You Hack it?

Throughout the first half of Semester  2, the Computer Science department has provided opportunities for our students to use their problem solving and algorithm skills.

During the IGCSE and IBDP Options evening for Year 9 and 11, students were set a “Can You Hack It?” challenge to solve encryption and programming based problems. This involved students finding clues within the HTML code to converting ASCII characters to text using their Python skills. The winners of the “Can You Hack It?” challenge successfully solved all problems by being creative, resilient and using their problem solving skills. Both Antonio Cheong and RaYeong Hur, Year 11 students, were rewarded with a BBC micro:bit and Raspberry Pi for completing all the challenges. All of our Year 11 Computer Science students are currently working towards completing the Cisco Python Essentials course, an industry recognized programming course. Endorsed by the Python Institute and aimed at further education students our students have demonstrated their impressive computing skills and most of them were able to successfully complete the course.

Our students are now placed to pursue careers as Senior Software Developers, Mobile Application Developers, or Cloud Computing Specialists and other fields of work in the Computing sector.

Mr Hassan, Computer Science teacher, spoke of how proud he was of the students and their abilities at demonstrating excellent computing skills.
